romney and the state next door, massachusetts, where he was governor. i think that is less of a factor. i think the people of new hampshire can see beyond that and are voting for the person they think is best for the 50 states. host: tell us about the history of new hampshire being a swing state. guest: traditionally, new hampshire was very solidly republican for many years. recently, i think it is sort of the clinton 1992 phenomenon that has changed that. he one the state twice. in 2000 it went to george w. bush. kerrey., john care the president got a nine point victory in 2008. we really are tossups state. the polls go back and forth. it is difficult to determine who is going to win this state right now. host: is there early voting and how do the hampshire residents vote on election day? guest: there's not early voting, but there's absentee ballot. you have to sign a form saying you are not going to be available on voting day to come to the polls. traditionally, the polls are open from about 7:00 until 7:00. some locations are open until 8:00 p.m. on election day. we have one of the hig
romney is next door to northwest ohio. romney is campaigning in florida today. virginia tomorrow. and those are two states that he has to win and two states that two weeks ago seemed to be trending ever so slightly to romney. so what about all this talk of expanding the map? most campaigns are now advertising in three new normally reliable democratic states but they're leaning democratic states. let's not pretend they're solid. then this morning a new detroit news poll of likely voters has in michigan showed the president leading romney but only by three points. a new franklin and marshall poll in pennsylvania shows the president up by just four points. this week a minneapolis star tribune poll showed a three-point race in minnesota. the romney campaign says this is evidence they have expanded the map. the obama campaign says this expansion of advertising shows it's a sign that romney has run out of routes to 270 electoral routes in the nine battlegrounds and needs more ways to get there, so they're throwing hail marys. expanding the map is something the romney campaign has tried

with the election six days away next tuesday. republican challenger mitt romney urging supporters to donate during a storm relief event yesterday. this was in kettering, ohio. he is scheduled to attend three campaign events today in florida. as mentioned earlier president obama will be on official business only today touring storm damage areas along the eastern seaboard. for now he is leaving the campaigning to former president clinton and other high-profile supporters. the latest cbs news/new york times poll taken before the storm shows that the president has a 48-47% lead among likely voters. he had a three-point lead in the same poll a month ago. it will be interesting to see if this has an effect on the election tuesday because they really do have to tone it down. >> they do. and we have seen that actually in the last couple of days. 5:05. let's check on the weather. >> we have a big parade. >> we have a big parade today. the parade of champions for the san francisco giants as they come back to town. well, we have the clouds outside right now. fog, drizzle and beautiful colors over san francis
